Bringing Home Baby – Half Day

Course description

The focus of this course is designed for expecting parents, parents, grandparents and other caregivers. It provides participants with the knowledge and skills aimed at managing life‐threatening situations that may occur whilst caring for an infant or child.

Course duration

Option 1: Full accredited course:

• Face to face, half day (4 hour delivery)
  

Option 2: Non-accredited workshop:

• Face to face workshop (3 hour delivery)
  

Course content

This includes but is not limited to the general management of:

• The unconscious infant / child

• The infant / child febrile seizures 

• HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (infant, child) and includes the use of an automated external defibrillator on a child

• Backyard pool drowning/dangers of shallow water blackout (SWB)

• Choking, Poisoning, Burns

Communicating with the Emergency Services. Stress management techniques and available support following an emergency situation, including the psychological impact on children. Infant, child basic anatomy and physiology and the consequences for provision of first aid.

First Aid for Parents & Carers. 

Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years. It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor (not required for workshop).

Materials provided

A quality first aid manual and a FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of quality, hygienic adult, junior & infant manikins and training defibrillators. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.
