First Aid for Parents & Carers

Course description

This course is designed for expecting parents, parents, grandparents and other caregivers. It provides participants with the knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for life threatening injuries and illnesses involving infants and young children.

Course duration

Option 1: Nationally recognised course:

  • Face to face, half day (7 hour delivery)

Option 2: Non-accredited workshop:

  • Face to face workshop (6 hour delivery)

Course content: 

This includes but is not limited to the following topics:

  • HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (infant and child) and includes the use of an Automated External Defibrillator for a child 

  • Backyard pool drowning/dangers of shallow water blackout (SWB)

  • Choking

  • Control of Bleeding, Management of Shock

  • Febrile Seizures

  • Asthma First Aid

  • Allergic Reaction and Anaphylaxis Awareness

  • Burns

  • Poisoning 

  • Diabetes

  • Bites & Stings

  • Content of Bringing Home Baby


Elements of this course can be tailored to suit your needs, for example, you may wish to replace ‘Diabetes’ with 'Fractures'

Communicating with the Emergency Services. Stress management techniques and available support following an emergency situation, including the psychological impact on children. Infant, child basic anatomy and physiology and the consequences for provision of first aid.

Bringing Home Baby


Minimum age for participants is 14 years. It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor (not required for workshop).


Materials provided

A quality first aid manual and a FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of quality, hygienic adult, junior & infant manikins, bandages, training props and defibrillators. The use of auto-injector trainers, the use of training reliever medication (bronchodilators) with small & large volume spacers & masks. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.


GROUP BOOKINGS ONLY. We come to you, conducted at a venue of your choice or home (our minimum charge allows for up to 10 participants). Get a group together, contact others in your industry, clubs, friends and family.

Certificate validity

Certificate for the accredited course is valid for 12 months as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that CPR skills are refreshed annually.



Option 1: Nationally recognised course:

$1,500 our group rate is capped at 15 participants. Our courses may be eligible for Health Fund Rebate please check with your health fund for rebate and cover eligibility.

Option 2: Non-accredited workshop:

This course can be offered as a non-accredited 6 hour workshop. $1,350 our group rate is capped at 15 participantsCLICK HERE for course costs.



In the face to face portion of the training, you are taught how to provide first aid with confidence. There is ample time in this course to ask questions and to practice the necessary skills needed for providing emergency first aid and life support for infant and young children (the nationally recognised course covers adult resuscitation).


The accredited course includes and exceeds the requirements of HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This statement of attainment is nationally recognised throughout Australia.
