HLTAID004 - Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting (existing clients group bookings only)

On 1 January 2012, the ‘National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care' began. It was introduced across Australia to help children have the best possible start in life. Under the Education and Care Services National Law ACECQA must publish a list of approved First Aid qualifications; Provide First Aid, Provide CPR, Management of Anaphylaxis and Asthma Risks & Emergencies in the Workplace.

This course includes all first aid units, under one certificate, from ACECQA approved list and is designed to comply with Childcare first aid regulations. 

Course description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults and applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

Flexible Learning:

• Self-study with online eLearning prior to face to face training

• Face to face, one day (8 hour delivery)

Course content

• Provide First Aid (includes Provide CPR)
  
• First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis 
  
• Management of Asthma Risks & Emergencies in the Workplace
  
• Stress management techniques and available support following an emergency situation, including the psychological impact on children. 
  
• Infant, child anatomy and physiology and the consequences for provision of first aid. 
• First aid requirements for services under the Education and Care Services National Law.
  

Course Requirements

Minimum age for participants is 14 years. Completion of the online eLearning is required prior to the face to face session. It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

Materials provided

A quality first aid manual, a FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask and an Anaphylaxis chart card. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of auto-injector trainers, the use of training reliever medication (bronchodilators) with small & large volume spacers & masks. Quality, hygienic adult, child & infant manikins, bandages, training props and defibrillators. For the flexible learning a self-paced online eVideo workbook is provided. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.
