This unit describes the outcomes that will provide vital skills and knowledge on how to recognise sharps, evaluate risks and implement control measures to facilitate the safe removal of sharps and other material that may be contaminated with blood and body fluids.
The purpose of this course is to ensure that all staff involved in the handling of infectious waste and sharps are aware of the requirement to follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOP).
This course is intended to provide participants with a range of knowledge, skills, generic and specific competencies to assist in safely performing the following job role(s):
Face to face workshop, one day (6 hours delivery)
Minimum age for participants is 14 years. There are no pre requisites and no pre-course study required for this course.
A Sharps and Infectious Waste manual and a FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of sharps containers, litter grabbers and training props. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.

As per industry recommended renewal. A refresher course is recommended every 12 months.

In the face to face portion of the training, you are taught how to deal with the handling of infectious waste and sharps with confidence. Training You First Aid conducts progressive scenario and theory based assessments throughout the course.
