This course is specifically designed for people employed as Occupational First Aiders and those aspiring to be employed in this role. This course provides participants with knowledge and skill to confidently recognise and respond to emergency situations. It is suitable for participants involved in the workplace first aid rooms or assisting occupational nursing staff.
The course is designed for individuals or organisations according to workplace or community first aid policy and procedures.
The combination of the unit HLTFA403C Manage First Aid in the Workplace, along with HLTFA311A Apply First Aid and HLTFA412A Apply Advanced First Aid, allows for the “Occupational First Aid” certificate to be awarded. This qualification is required by some industries.
Face to face workshop, two days (total 16 hours delivery, no workbook required) after achievement of the following related competency unit: HLTFA311A Apply First Aid
HLTFA412A Apply Advanced First Aid, one day (8 hours)
HLTFA403C Manage First Aid in the Workplace , one day (8 hours)

Major trauma – Triage
Incident management skills
Safe storage and handling of medication in the workplace
Safe storage and handling of pressurised gases
Safe manual handling
Interpret material safety data sheets (MSDS)
Minimum age for participants is 14 years.
A current HLTFA3O1B/C Apply First Aid certificate is required for this course (you will be required to bring this certificate to your face to face training as evidence to enrol into this course).
A quality first aid manual, a CPR chart card. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of quality, hygienic adult, junior & infant manikins, bandages, oxygen, suction, resuscitator, training props and defibrillators. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.

GROUP BOOKINGS ONLY. Conducted onsite. This unit is most appropriately assessed in the workplace and under the normal range of workplace conditions (minimum 6 participants). We cannot register individual participants. So get a group together, contact others in your industry, clubs, similar groups and friends. Certificate valid for 3 years as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends a refresher course every 12 months for the content of Apply Advanced Resuscitation Technique. This ensures currency of advanced resuscitation skills and knowledge of equipment.

Training You First Aid conducts progressive assessment throughout the course including practical demonstrations linked with a multiple choice assessment. A multiple choice assessment, which reviews the practical content and covers a range of theory topics. Practical: CPR and advanced resuscitation skills, casualty management skills, use of automated external defibrillator, use of oxygen delivery systems and major workplace incidents. Due to the practical components of the course participants are advised to wear comfortable casual clothing.
This statement of attainment is nationally recognised and workplace approved throughout Australia.

Participants who successfully completed this qualification may be eligible for employment as: Occupational First Aider.
To be awarded an “Occupational First Aid” certificate participants must successfully complete the following 3 units of competency:

HLTFA412A Apply Advanced First Aid
HLTFA403C Manage First Aid in the Workplace.
Participants must successfully meet all criteria for all 3 units to be awarded this qualification (this qualification is required by some industries).
WorkCover NSW, Health & Safety Guide; “A first aid room is recommended for high risk workplaces with 100 workers or more and for low risk workplaces with 200 workers or more.
A person appointed to be in charge of a first aid room must be:
(a) a person who holds a current occupational first aid certificate issued after successful completion of a WorkCover-approved occupational first aid course; or
(b) a level 3 or greater New South Wales ambulance officer; or
(c) a registered nurse; or
(d) a medical practitioner”
