This course deals with the provision of advanced first aid resuscitation techniques, life support, and management of casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers. This course is designed for first aiders to advance their skills to include automated external defibrillation, soft bag resuscitation and oxygen delivery.
Face to face workshop, one day (7 hours delivery).
Assess the situation and recognise someone requiring Advanced Resuscitation
One and two rescuer resuscitation techniques
Oxygen safety precautions
Selecting and 'cracking' an oxygen cylinder
Checking and assembling an oxygen cylinder and equipment
Administering oxygen with a face mask
Selection of appropriate oropharyngeal airway
Inserting an oropharyngeal airway
Operate suction equipment
Use of bag and mask device with oxygen therapy
Two rescuer soft bag resuscitation
Safe procedure and effective use of an automated external defibrillator
Minimum age for participants is 14 years.
A current certificate in; HLTFA301B/C Apply First Aid or
HLTCPR201B/211A Perform CPR or
HLTFA201B Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
(You will be required to bring the certificate to your face to face training as evidence to enrol into this course)
A quality first aid manual, a CPR chart card. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of quality hygienic; adult, junior & infant manikins, oxygen, suction, soft bag resuscitator and training defibrillators. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.

Certificate valid for 12 months as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommend a refresher course every 12 months.

A combination of a down to earth practical section linked with a multiple choice assessment. Practical: CPR, advanced resuscitation skills, use of automated external defibrillator, use of oxygen delivery system. Due to the practical components of the course participants are advised to wear comfortable casual clothing.
This statement of attainment is nationally recognised and workplace approved throughout Australia.
HLTFA404C - Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
Participants who successfully complete this qualification may be eligible for entry into further study such as: Certificate II in Emergency Medical Service First Response.
