HLTFA412A - Apply Advanced First Aid

Course description

This course builds on HLTFA311A Apply First Aid, to include additional skills and use of a range of equipment; it prepares the first aider to skilfully use oxygen equipment. It is ideal for first aiders requiring a higher level of preparedness in order to adequately handle a workplace emergency. Apply Advanced First Aid deals with the provision of advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers.

Course duration

  • Face to face workshop, one day (8 hours delivery, no workbook required) after achievement of the following related competency unit: HLTFA311A Apply First Aid


Course content;

Builds on content of HLTFA311A Apply First Aid to include:

  • Apply Advanced Resuscitation

  • Use of Automated External Defibrillation

  • Use of Oxygen therapy and operate suction equipment

  • Trauma management, multiple injuries – prioritise needs for medical assistance and undertake triage when required

  • First aid team work

  • Emergency childbirth

  • Spinal care

  • Infection control principles and procedures

  • Comply with OHS Legislation

  • Emotionally disturbed casualties

  • First aid records

  • Use of Bronchodilator

  • Management of anaphylactic shock reaction


Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years. A current HLTFA311A Apply First Aid certificate is required for this course (you will be required to bring this certificate to your face to face training as evidence to enrol into this course).

 

Materials provided

A quality first aid manual, a CPR chart card. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. The use of quality, hygienic; adult, junior & infant manikins, bandages, oxygen, suction, resuscitator, props and training defibrillators. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.


Classes

GROUP BOOKINGS ONLY. We come to you, conducted onsite (minimum 6 participants). We cannot register individual participants. So get a group together, contact others in your industry, clubs, similar groups, friends and family. Please refer to the contact us section of the website for details.
 

Certificate validity

Certificate valid for 3 years as per industry standard. However, a refresher course is recommended every 12 months for the content of the unit HLTFA404C Apply Advanced Resuscitation Technique, which is built in to this course. This ensures currency of advanced resuscitation skills and knowledge of equipment.

Assessment

Training You First Aid conducts progressive assessment throughout the course including practical demonstrations linked with a multiple choice assessment. A multiple choice assessment, which reviews the practical content and covers a range of theory topics. Practical: CPR and advanced resuscitation skills, casualty management skills, use of automated external defibrillator, use of oxygen delivery systems. Due to the practical components of the course participants are advised to wear comfortable casual clothing.

This statement of attainment is nationally recognised and workplace approved throughout Australia.

Participants who successfully complete this qualification may be eligible for entry into further study such as: Certificate II in Emergency Medical Service First Response.
 

Nurses: The HLTFA412A Apply Advanced First Aid course following successful accreditation attracts study hours towards professional development. Generally one hour of face to face learning is equivalent to one CNE (Continuing Nurse Education) point.
