Q: What is the difference between Apply First Aid and Senior First Aid?
Previously, the workplace approved first aid course was called Senior First Aid. Since then, changes have taken place and first aid approval is now issued to Registered Training Organisations (RTO). The new first aid is titled Apply First Aid HLTFA311A.

Q: Are Training You First Aid courses the same as other first aid providers?
Yes, our courses are nationally recognised and have exactly the same learning outcomes as other providers. For example our Apply First Aid course (previously known as Senior First Aid) content is the same as any other recognised first aid provider. You receive the same Unit of Competency qualification on successful completion of the course.

Q: Do I get a nationally recognised certificate?
Yes, all participants receive a colour A4 certificate on successful completion and a hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. This qualification is nationally recognised throughout Australia.

• The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) are the recognised peak body in Australia for appropriate first aid treatments. www.resus.org.au

Q: Is it possible to fail?
Our Trainers see it as their responsibility to make sure that all participants are competent by the end of the session. If you need help, they will make sure that you get it.

Q: Will I earn Continuing Professional Development Points?
If you are a health professional then you may be required to keep up your skills under some form of a Continuing Professional Development program, for example: Nurses / General Practitioners / Allied Health Workers / Chiropractors / Physiotherapists / Pharmacists / Optometrists / Ophthalmologist / Anaesthetist / Myotherapists / Surgeons / Dentists / Masseurs / Police.
Once you have completed your course with us, you can use your qualification to obtain your points from your registering body. Different organisations have different systems for the allocation of points. In general, 2 points per hour for assessed learning delivered from a training package. Please contact your registering body for further information.

Nurses: Our courses following successful accreditation attract study hours towards professional development. One hour of study is equivalent to one CNE (Continuing Nurse Education) point.

Q: How quickly will I get my certificate?
On completion of all requirements, we supply a complimentary hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate with your statement of attainment certificate. For printing purposes this normally takes 5 to 10 working days. In the meantime an email copy of your certificate will be supplied.

Q: Why are some certificates valid for one year when other certificates are valid for three years?
Apply First Aid, Apply Advanced First Aid, Basic Emergency Life Support, First Aid for Parents and Carers, First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis & Asthma and Occupational First Aid certificates are valid for 3 years.

For certain industries; CPR, Oxygen and Defibrillation courses are valid for 1 year. Refreshing CPR skills annually is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council. A person is unlikely to be able to remember exactly what to do in the case of an emergency relating to Basic Life Support (BLS), one year after the course. This is not a reflection on the quality of our training but rather due to the fact that most participants who take the course are unlikely to have had a chance to apply it (if they are lucky). If there is a need for BLS there is not time to look it up in books or call a friend, you have to be ready and able to apply your knowledge immediately. Hands on practice with manikins under the guidance of a qualified CPR Trainer are recommended annually by the Australian Resuscitation Council.
With Accident and Injury this tends not to be the case. It is not as specific and a lot of it will be remembered and is common sense. We aim to build confidence and an awareness of risks. For more specific information, please refer to the individual courses.

Q: My certificate has just expired; can I enrol in a re-certification course?
It is recommended that you hold in date certification to be able to enrol in a re-certification or refresher course. Please advise us of your requirements at the time of booking as we can be flexible with regards to expiry dates as per industry standards. If you successfully complete a course with us, we will notify you prior to the expiry date.

Q: I got my Apply First Aid certificate almost a year ago, and I was told that I should do a resuscitation course each year for the next few years ... is this true?
It is not a legal requirement to complete a resuscitation course each year. However, the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that first aiders should be able to demonstrate their resuscitation skills on a regular basis. An annual CPR renewal may also be required by certain industries and may be identified in industry regulations or licensing requirements. Training You First Aid recommends that a refresher course is done every year to ensure that a first aider is able to effectively perform CPR. If you successfully complete a course with us, we will notify you prior to the expiry date.

Q: Are you able to tailor the course to our specific needs?
Training You First aid is able to customise first aid courses to suit participant's needs, whether specific and specialised modules need to be delivered, or more flexibility is required within current first aid courses.

Q: What does it cost?
In all cases weekend and evening rates are at NO extra charge (prices include for each participant a quality first aid manual, a hard plastic wallet card replica of your certificate, an online workbook and an accredited certificate on successful completion). The person making the booking will also receive a laminated A4 CPR chart card. All courses are GST free, prices are subject to change. CLICK HERE for course costs.

Build your own classes:

The cost is based upon the subjects you require to be covered. This in turn will be decided after discussing what you wish to cover and how many participants are likely to attend. The minimum class length is two hours and 6 participants.

Q: Can I pay for the course on the day?
Full payment is required for each participant prior to attending your first aid course, 14 days prior to your training is appreciated, in order to secure your group booking.

Q: Where is the value?
We like to add quality to everything we do at Training You First Aid to ensure that you have the best possible learning experience. Even with this as our guiding principle our prices are not that different to most First Aid training providers. In fact we are often cheaper.
We are a little different to other First Aid companies because our courses are developed and usually run by Angie, the Owner and Principle Trainer. Our Trainers are nurses or health industry experts currently working in hospitals, clinics and the local community throughout the Sydney area. The advantage of this is that you are being trained by Instructors who have first hand experience of treating medical emergencies and are familiar with the day to day accidents and injuries. They are involved in teaching through their work bringing this valuable experience to your course.
• We do not charge extra for weekend or evening courses and there are no nasty surprises.
• All our courses are free from GST.
• We can offer large group and corporate discounts.
• We love to reward our repeat participants by offering a discount.

Q: How do I organise my private course?
To book a course we need to know the address/venue where you will hold the course and your preferences for when you want to have it (weekdays, weekends, evenings…). We can take this information over the phone or you can email it to us. Once you have confirmed the date and time with the others in your group, we send you a confirmation email, training overview and an invoice (this is payable in full 14 days prior to your course). Participants enrolled into HLTFA311A Apply First Aid Flexible Learning; need to complete some theory subjects prior to attending the face to face workshop. On receipt of full payment access and details on how to commence the online workbook will be released.

Q: When do you run the courses?
We run onsite courses at anytime to fit in with your schedule, we do them in the evenings, at weekends (Sat and Sun) as well as mid week. GROUP BOOKINGS ONLY. We cannot register individual participants. So get a group together (minimum 6 participants), contact others in your industry, clubs, similar groups, friends and family. Please refer to the contact us section of the website for details.

Q: When do you have availability? How far in advance do I need to book my private course? The more flexible you are about when you would like your course to take place the quicker it will be to organise it. Most courses can be organised and completed within two - three weeks.

Q: What happens if I have more than 6 participants for my private course?
The ratio of 1 trainer up to 15 participants works well to ensure that each person is properly observed and understands. However we will train up to 20 participants depending on the size of the room and available floor space. For each extra participant over 6 there is an additional per person charge, discounts apply CLICK HERE for course costs. Large group and corporate discounts may apply. Prices are subject to change. All our courses are GST exempt.

Q: What happens if I have less than 6 participants for my private course?
The minimum fee is still applicable because even if there are less than 6 participants, the course will take the same amount of time, planning and professional instruction. So the minimum fee will be the same whether there are 1 or 6 participants. A group of 6 tends to work better than smaller groups, particularly with Basic Life Support because you learn from watching others as well as practicing yourself. Repetition is key.

Q: I don’t have a group of 6 participants.Can I join someone else’s group?
The majority of our courses are held privately in people’s workplaces or homes where we cannot invite other participants. We find that once you start asking people who require first aid for their career, who are working with the public or are involved with children e.g. Parents, Grandparents, Nannies, Carers, you invariably end up with 6 participants. So many people have been meaning to do a first aid course and have not got around to it and could appreciate the offer of a course to attend.

Q: How much space will I need for the private course?
We like to train in a room where everyone can see the presentation (PowerPoint). An area with a table is ideal and a seat for each participant. For CPR training, you will be practicing your skills on resuscitation manikins. We tend to practice on ‘baby manikin’ on a table and ‘adult manikins’ on the floor. Therefore a carpet, rug or old towel on the floor will make this a little more comfortable on the knees. Do not worry about whether you have enough space in your workplace or home. We do not need a great deal of space and have not yet come across a workplace or home that is not able to accommodate a course.

Q: What sort of clothes should I wear when I attend a training session? Comfortable casual clothing is recommended in order to cope with practical activities on the floor, for example CPR.

Q: English is my second language, can I bring an interpreter?
Yes. You can bring along a friend, family member or a qualified interpreter to attend the training with you free of charge. If the interpreter would like to gain the same qualification a fee will apply.

Q: I have special needs; can I still do first aid training?
Depending on the type of need, you can still participate in first aid training. We will do everything possible to meet individual needs. Please advise us of your requirements at the time of booking.
